Women’s dresses: the 2024 trends in women’s fashion

With the conclusion of Fashion Weeks, that is, the four weeks of fashion shows in the most important fashion capitals, which are Milan, Paris, London and New York (also called the “Big Four“), where new collections were previewed, we can finally make a point of taking stock of the new items and trends that were seen on the runway and that will become must-haves in every woman’s wardrobe.

While on one hand the boundary between prêt-à-porter and haute couture is thinning in favor of an increasingly minimal, simple and contemporary style, a new super-sophisticated basic and quiet luxury, on the other hand the excellence of handmade Italian dress, characterized by sartorial workmanship, prestigious and high-quality materials and deluxe details, is exalted.

The excellence of Made in Italy fashion in the world

Unmistakable elegance, excellent tailoring, historical tradition, fine fabrics and innovative creativity: these are the characteristics that outline Made in Italy fashion in the world and make it the most famous and sought-after in every part of the planet, with a growth that in the first eight months of 2023 registers a +5.1% increase in cross-border sales compared to the same period in 2022.

Italian fashion continues to like and fascinate more and more people and represents more than just a simple brand: it stands for excellent quality, unique and timeless style, good taste and a definite status symbol. Wearing an Italian dress does not mean choosing a simple garment, but wearing a unique style and elegant and refined fashion.

This is why the great Italian fashion Maisons, which throughout history have defined the look of entire generations, are still at the forefront of the most important fashion shows and represent a beacon of creativity and excellence from which to take example.

5 top trends for 2024 in women’s apparel

The fashion catwalks have set the new 2024 trends in women’s dresses. First of all, let’s start with mini-dresses, which, after having gone through a boom during the winter, will be confirmed as the must-have garment in the warmer season as well.

Four are the trends that will be the most popular in this direction: minimal and very elegant total white mini dresses, sleeveless and flared cut above the knee; full color ones made in energizing and super-bright shades; precious mini dresses, created with high-end materials (leather, silk, lace, etc.) and decorated with pearls, crystals, sequins; and finally, very short dresses with square lines and not very tight, such as trapeze dresses straight from the 1960s.

Another very beautiful news is the strong use of transparencies in women’s dresses, not only evening dresses, but also for everyday looks and business outfits, towards a sensuality that sets new standards also thanks to the fascinating nude colors.

There will also be another feature of women’s dresses 2024: veils, light fabrics and almost imperceptible materials will become the main characters of a refined and luxurious chic style.

Present on almost every runway are midi dresses, which are the ones that are long to below the knee and mid-calf: in flared, trapeze, knotted or draped versions, they are one of the must-have garments.

Finally, there will be no shortage of larger and more voluminous dresses under the sign of creativity: featuring plastic shapes, innovative materials, original patterns and prominent draping to add an artistic touch to one’s wardrobe.

The top colors for women’s clothes in 2024

The fashion colors to be worn in the 2024 hot season have also been determined, confirmed by the Pantone Color Institute, the foremost authority on color. The hue of the year will be Peach Fuzz, a delicate and soft shade of peach that expresses warmth and modern elegance. Vivid, bright colors, nature-inspired tones, neutral colorways (camel, nude and white above all others) and pastel shades (primarily powder blue, butter yellow and lilac) will also be going strong, with milk-mint green being the most important new entry.

For the super-luxury looks, there will be the dark red (as in bordeaux, a name derived from the intense color that characterizes the homonymous French wine, or in burgundy) enveloping and sensual that becomes the new symbol of quiet luxury, while gray will replace black in the more tailored garments that evoke the typically 1990s style.
