The History of Gaming … [From Birth Till Today]

You may remember the Great Video Game Crash back in 1983, which saw the sales of video games decline dramatically. The market became oversaturated with poorly made knock-off games as companies tried to gain a foothold in the industry, which saw a downturn in video game purchases. Since this, the industry has come a long way and become a billion-dollar industry and is more popular than ever with an estimated two billion people now playing games across the globe.

Whether you are from the younger generation of gamers or a veteran, we all have very fond memories of gaming – be it pulling an all-nighter with your friends to complete a level or a console that blew us away with its ability to run games of graphical wonder.

Over its 40-plus years, gaming has seen a number of miles stones and is now the most technologically advanced it has ever been. Gamers now have the ability to play games of such a caliber that they often find themselves on the borderline of realism and with the recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) are even able to step into worlds they could have only dreamed of.

Online gaming retailer Fanatical has created the below infographic which details key points from the birth of the industry to the modern day.
