The Samoyed dog breed originated in Western Siberia and Northwest Russia. There are several names that are used for referring to this dog breed such as Bjelkier, Nenetskaya Laika and Samoiedskaya Sobaka. The nicknames that are used for calling Samoyed dogs are Smiley and Sammy. Samoyed dogs were bred by their owners in the countries of origin for helping in herding and pulling sleds making them perfect in other different things such as agility, obedience, carting, tracking and playing such as flyball. Samoyed dogs have double coat and their fur is dense, straight and long. The Samoyeds differ in their height and weight according to their gender. The weight of males ranges from 23 kg to 30 kg (51 to 66 lb) and their height ranges from 53 cm to 60 cm (21 to 23.5 in). On the other hand, the weight of females ranges from 17 kg to 25 kg (37 to 55 lb) while their height ranges from 48 cm to 53 cm (19 to 21 in).

Samoyed dogs have almond-shaped eyes which come in different colors such as black, brown, blue and other colors but the most common colors are black and brown. Samoyeds have triangular, erect and thick ears that are covered with fur. They have long tails which are curled and carried over their backs and the tail comes over their noses in the winter season while being asleep to provide them with more warmth and help them to fight the cold weather. Samoyed dogs leave their tails to fall when they are at ease and not alert.
