On the history of greeting cards
The origins of what we know now as greeting cards go back to ancient Egypt and China. Ancient Egyptians had sent greetings to each other via papyrus scrolls. It was sold in an auction in 2001 for £22,500 to become one of the most expensive Christmas items sold, contrary to its original cost. In the U.S, greeting cards turned into an industry in 1856 on the hands of Louis Prang, an immigrant German, who initiated a small lithographic business near Boston. Moving to the 19th century, the year 1941 witnessed the establishment of the Greeting Card Industry from which came what we know today as the Greeting Card Association.
