Growing up as an orphan must be a hard thing. And definitely living in orphanages and fosters is not the life that every child dreams of. However, being an orphan does not mean that this is the end. Many orphans out there have been adopted and lived happily with their new nonbiological parents. Here are some examples of 12 famous people that you didn’t know they were adopted and despite being orphans they managed to achieve fame and success.

  1. Marilyn Monroe:

Marilyn’s mother dumped her when she was young. As a result, Marilyn spent her childhood in various foster homes. At the age of 16, Marilyn chose to get married in order to get rid of the orphanage life. In 1942, she was married to James Dougherty for four years. Then Marilyn started her successful and mind blowing career.

  1. Bill Clinton:

The former U.S president Bill Clinton, was adopted and raised by his grandparents. Clinton is considered the second adopted U.S president after the former president “Gerald Ford.”

  1. Nelson Mandela:

The Civil Rights Activist and the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela is another celebrity who was adopted. Mandela was adopted at the age of 9 after the death of his father by a lung disease.

  1. Ray Liotta:

The actor Ray Liotta was adopted at very young age; when he was only 6 months old. Many years later after his fame and success, the 40 years old Ray decided to hire an investigator to find his real parents.

  1. Steve Jobs:

You might be surprised to know that the famous co-founder of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs was adopted. Not only that, but also the surprise is that his biological father was an Arab Muslim called Abdelfattah Jandali. The parents of Jandali’s girlfriend and Steve’s mother refused the relationship of their daughter with an Arab Muslim man. As a result, Steve was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs just after his birth.

  1. Jamie Foxx:

The famous Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx was adopted by his grandmother after the divorce of his father and mother. It is worth mentioning that Jamie appreciated his grandmother efforts and love while raising him and he thanked her in front of thousands of people in his Academy Award acceptance speech.

  1. Malcom X:

Malcom’s biological father Earl Little was killed in 1931. The death of the father affected badly Malcom’s mother. As a result, she suffered from a nervous breakdown and was sent to a mental hospital. After that, the young Malcom and his siblings were put in an orphanage and later they were adopted by different families.

  1. Nicole Richie:

You may have heard before about Nicole Richie, the young, spoiled and rich girl who was always getting into troubles. However, the thing that you might not know is that Nicole was not always that rich girl you thought her to be. In fact, her biological father and mother were not rich so they left her under the care of Richie and her wife in order to guarantee her a better future.

  1. Snooki:

Snooki was adopted when she was only six years old by Italian American family. Unlike other adopted celebrities, Snooki does not know her biological parents and she is not even interested to know them.

  1. Jack Nicholson:

Jack’s mother gave birth to him when she was only 16 years old and she did not know who jack’s father was. That is why he was raised by his grandparents. You might be surprised that Jack lived a period of his life thinking that his grandparents are his father and mother.

  1. Michael Oher:

The football player Michael Oher also was adopted. His story was a little bit tragic. Michael’s mother was addicted to alcohol and cocaine and his father spent most of his life in prison. Due to these conditions, Michael’s childhood was a difficult one. However, Michael’s bravely challenged all the terrible circumstances and he now has a successful life.  Oher once stated that; “It’s true that we can’t help the circumstances we were born into and some of us start out in a much tougher place than other people. But just because we started there doesn’t mean we have to end there.” It was also worth mentioning that the story of the movie “The Blind Side” was inspired from his life.

  1. Faith Hill:

The country singer Faith Hill was adopted at very young age. Hill was raised by her new family and their two biological sons. However, later in the year 2004, the Grammy Award winning decided to search for her biological parents. After 3 years of search, Hill successfully found her biological mother and they had a close relationship until the death of the mother.
