10 Outdated Wedding Trends to Avoid

So, you have met your “happily ever after”; it is probably time for you two to tie the knot and start your own fairytale. Not many can turn life into a fairytale, and we sincerely hope you to be among the few. Things get exciting yet a bit exhausting, for, honestly, planning your wedding can add too much stress. It is a very personal experience that you want it to go smoothly. Brides and grooms love to have a wedding that reveals a lot about who they are and what they love. Celebrating your relationship is a special feeling, so you need to take the right measurements to ensure a great design.

During the past years, some particular trends have shown up and became very popular among the choices of the newlyweds. However, these trends have been much overused, and people quickly grew bored with them. The reason behind their fast-paced popularity is that brides usually look up the latest trends through the same blogs and websites. Because we know your big day should be special and run smoothly, here are ten trends we advise you to avoid for a stress-free wedding with no complications at all. Check them out, so you can easily stay away from trends that rapidly expire.

1 Jumbled Tables

Tables are among the necessities of the wedding; you need to let your guests mingle over food freely and have some delicious meals. That is not the outdated trend though, but having tables that are jumbled and cluttered with flowers, centerpieces, and candles are not a great idea. It makes things harder for your guests when it comes to reaching their food. It is always better to keep things practical and to the point; candles and flowers may make your tables look nice, but they won’t be in their best shape with a lot of castoffs and secondhand goods all over. Since you want your guests to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves, make sure you leave enough room for them. They won’t be so happy when they are concerned all the time that they may knock something over and break it.  Simplicity is the key; keep the foods and drinks accessible and manage the number of accessories and fixtures that you place on the table.

2 Cheesy Photo Booths

Don’t get us wrong; photos are important parts of any wedding ceremony, but the photo booth? No, you don’t need that thing. It has grown very cheesy and cliché. There is nothing special about these booths anymore. They had their moment and were a big trend; they remained so for a very long time. However, it got much overused that people no longer think it is creative. Over and beyond, you will eventually end up with photos that look the same as those of your friends; nothing quite special about the weds’ photos when everyone is doing the same. That silly hats, goofy glasses, and mustaches too are among the things that you should say no to. You can be trendier by having fun throughout the wedding and have a professional photographer to capture your special moments throughout the ceremony.

3 Ditch the Signs

Signs, well, they can be critical at sometimes; on the other hand, why would you need a lot of them? It is not like you are having a wedding in a vast forest where people are going to get deliberately lost or that they are afraid to get into a danger zone in the big spooky forest. Signs are sometimes overdone; you don’t need them everywhere and for everything. For example, you can have ones for the direction of the restroom if they are not very easy to find. Otherwise, you need to know that your guests are majorly adults, and they will find their way through whatever you are looking for.

4 Chair Covers

We are not sure where that tradition comes from; why would you have your wedding chairs covered? Well, if you want them to be white and all shiny, you can have ready-made ones. This weird tradition has been around since the late eighties and, honestly, it should have stayed there for good. It is time to leave it there and ditch the extra charges you spend to cover every single chair in your wedding party and save that money for having better ones, instead.  It is time for us to update our trends, people.

5 The Matching Dresses of the Bridesmaids

It is cheesy! Really, it is. Having to show who your best friends are is an amazing thing too, especially when you are trying to show pride in the people who have always been there. However, making all of them wear the same dress as if they are coming from a Disney movie is not the best way to show your gratitude for your best people. There are a lot of better ways to show gratitude and, frankly, the matching dresses shall not be one of them. It is time to ditch this tradition and start adopting new concepts. You can reveal who your best friends are by making them wear the same length of dresses, but they should be free to choose different colors. The more colors you have, the brighter your wedding ceremony will even appear. Here is the deal; if your girls are going to spend, probably, a fortune on a dress for your wedding ceremony, it better be one that they like, and a color of their own choice, for they have the right to wear it again in later occasions.

6 Party Favors

At the beginnings of any wedding ceremony, guests would find favors placed at their table. Well, it is not a bad thing to thank people for coming and celebrating your special day with you, but the type of gifts provided, candy and chicken, are not really the best kind of gifts. This trend should be gone forever because this is not how you thank your guests for coming to your wedding; especially that they are all grownups. On the other hand, a little favor can always be a nice gesture, but we do believe that it is always better to acknowledge your appreciation at the end of the ceremony. Besides, look for stuff that seems useful to people because when it is the other way around and you are the guest, you barely remember what that gift was, and sometimes you will leave it at just where you have found it, right? Everybody does that too, so it is time to kiss that trend goodbye and come up with more creative ways.

7 Mason Jars

Mason jars on every table, seriously? Well, they look fine and all, but this trend has been around for ages, and it was the main factor of every wedding, especially the countryside and rustic ones. Maybe now is the right time for us to think outside the box and do something a little bit different and ditch the clichéd methods of celebration. You have the internet for free, so why not explore some ideas that will give you better options and more contemporary ideas that won’t be outdated that rapidly. Go for soft cotton and beautiful timber table instead. Don’t you think they will be a great addition to the design of your big day?

8 Candy Buffets are a Big NO

It is kind of you to think of having candy buffets to satisfy the sweet tooth of the ones who have it among your guest. But, you have to keep in mind that it is not a great idea to do; it became the most outdated wedding trends so quickly for a lot for reasonable reasons. First of all, things are going to get very messy if your guests started having some candy in small plastic bags; that is surely not what you want at a wedding ceremony, it is not a candy shop. On the other hand, your guests have come to celebrate, dance and cheer for you. They will feel hungry quite quickly by the end of the night; arriving at the reception only to realize that the candy buffet is all that is there is a sure turn-off, your guests will find the nearest exit, and they will look for faster ways to leave for a refuel. Instead, go for more practical ways to satisfy your people by adding a wide range of different snacking options, and don’t limit it to the cupcakes and lollipops; you can add salty pastries too.

9 Exotic Cake Flavors

Unfortunately, people tend to believe that anything that is exotic is appealing. But, that is not always the case, especially when it comes to foods and flavors. At some point, weddings were full of colored cakes that have exotic flavors like apple cider, orange liqueur, and the likes. They sounded cool at first, but this trend went off quickly because not everyone like tasting such bizarre flavors in their cake, and they prefer to stick with more traditional ones like chocolate and vanilla. You don’t want to end up with a pile of leftover desserts and unwisely spent money, so take this trend off of your list if you happen to consider it at any time.

10 Celebrity Wedding Copycats

This is a very ruthless trend that we don’t know why it would even be there, but it is still there, and we advise you to let it go. Celebrities are usually figures that we look up to; however, we are not supposed to copy every single thing that they do. Unfortunately, copying a high-profile wedding may sound like a great idea for some people, but it is a corny trend, to be honest. Your wedding theme should be a reflection of who you and your partner are; it should be a clear mirror of your own love story not the imitation of someone else’s. Don’t go for themes that resemble those of your favorite celebrity and personalize your wedding in your own way, instead.
