A blacktip reef shark patrols the edge of a recovering coral reef in search of a meal. With this image I wanted to portray as many elements of the idealistic 'tropical island' as possible, all with a single capture. The image was particularly difficult to get, as it required the right combination of tide, good underwater visibility and calm surface conditions, as well as the sharks playing their part. I also wanted some interesting cloud features in the sky, and on this day the cloud cover was perfect: interesting, but not so thick as to obscure the blue sky. I had seen a few sharks in the area and decided on the best place to shoot from. At low tide I waded out and perched on a large rock as I waited for the tide to come in. After about an hour, I saw the first shark and started to shoot. Blacktip reef sharks pose no threat to humans, but my position on the rock allowed me to hold the heavy underwater housing at such an angle that half of the dome port was out of the water, resulting in the image. Using the island as a backdrop, I angled my camera so that there was a small section of white sand against which to contrast one of the sharks. There were a few sharks swimming around me and it was just a matter of time before one swam over the sandy patch, filling the negative space in the frame. On this particular day I perched on the rock for about four hours until the incoming tide threatened to sweep me off my feet. Once I decided it was starting to get dangerous, I leaped off the rock and swam to shore. It was an incredibly humbling experience to be in the presence of such remarkable predators, yet have complete trust in the interaction...I was more worried about getting swept out to sea!

Seychelles is a small country on the Indian Ocean. It lies over 1.500 Kilometer and it is near Madagascar. In the year 1971, Seychelles International Airport  was opened. Accordingly, the industry of tourism kept on growing and growing until it becomes one of the country’s national incomes. In recent years the government has encouraged foreign investment to upgrade hotels and other services. And this led to the increase of the number of tourists as well. Moreover, Seychelles is one of the most photographed beaches in the world because of how pretty and unique it is.

Kaunaʻoa Bay is a small bay in Hawaii and one of the few white sand beaches of the Kohala Coast. The plans of building a resort there started back in January 1961 and after years of hard work the hotel was finally opened in 1965. In the year 2000, this beach was named as “America’s best beach.” Unfortunately, the bay was only a few miles from the 2006 Hawaii earthquake which made major destruction to the hotel. However, in early 2009, the hotel was renewed and reopened.
